Martyn Swain

Ruby`s Creator

A Brief Biography

Martyn Swain is an Emmy and FIPA D’Or Award-Winning Composer, and Sound Designer working from his own Digital ‘Sound to Picture’ studio in Central London.

As a touring musician, he worked with the Waterboys, World Party, Aimee Mann, Toni Childs, Julian Lennon, Sinead O’Connor, Holly Johnson and David Bowie, amongst others.

He also studied at the Guildhall School of Music, and moved from “hired hand” to prolific singer and songwriter, writing with Robert Plant, Aimee Mann, Toni Childs, and Julian Lennon, as well as fronting his unique and critically acclaimed band Secret Circus, which released 2 EPs.

Martyn then focused on a career as a Composer and Producer, working on numerous commissions for the BBC, ITV and Channel 4 in the UK.

He has already won two Emmy Awards for his contributions to BBC 2’s Timewatch programmes, “Allied to the Mafia”, and “The True Story of the Roman Arena”, as well as the FIPA D’Or, a prestigious global award for ‘Best Original Score for a TV Drama’.

Martyn was then left with one final ambition – to write a hit Musical! A chance approach from Dorset Opera led to Martyn writing a short operatic piece for the Dorset Community. Unfulfilled by the brief, he saw an opportunity to write a full-length show, based on the Brothers Grimm story he’d adapted and eventually ‘Ruby & the 13th Door’ was born.

After a number of false starts the show was eventually put on in York, to great critical acclaim – but that’s not where the story ends. Buoyed by the reaction to the first performances, whose cast included professional stars as well as community performers, Martyn is keen to launch a re-written and re-shaped show on the World.

Martyn has a wealth of professional musical experience – but he still needs the right Theatre contacts to bring Ruby to the wider audience it richly deserves.
